WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?

The Environmental Stweardship Award Program was created in 1991 by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. Each year the Environmental Stewardship Advisory committee, composed of a group of representatives from various universities, conservation organizations, and federal and state agencies, selects companies that have distinguished themselves through their activities and best practices.
The assessment is based on water, flora and fauna, air and land management, along with the leadership and sustainability skills of the company as a whole.

A SUSTAINABLE COMMITMENT THAT IS SEEN, AND REWARDED

Medina’s colleagues undertook a major lighting transformation project in partnership with GreenTech Lighting LLC. Over the past two months, they have thus replaced 700 conventional light bulbs with more efficient LED lighting.
As a result of this project, annual energy consumption is expected to be reduced by 1,060,597 kWh, but not only that. This improvement will help reduce air pollution and environmental damage, according to the following estimates released by the institution:

• The removal of 635.5 tons of CO2 and 1,402 tons of sulfur dioxide;
• The removal of primary pollutants such as NOX (nitrogen monoxide and dioxide) and mercury by an estimated 593 and 29 pounds;
• The planting of 194.6 acres of trees;
• The saving of 87,553.3 gallons of gas.

Receiving the award are Dan Russel, Process Engineer and his entire Medina plant team.
