Veduggio, May 5, 2025Tokbo is redefining structural engineering through smart steel monitoring. Steel structures are designed to offer excellent strength and flexibility, but Tokbo’s intelligent sensors integrated into bolted joints take this performance even further. These cutting-edge systems deliver real-time data, therefore boosting safety, efficiency, and resilience.

Recently, Tokbo played a key role in two major steel structure projects, continuing its long-standing collaboration with the University of Salerno, active since 2021. In addition, Tokbo contributed to the implementation of 4 trestles to support the roof of a large hangar. Through these initiatives, Tokbo demonstrates its commitment to innovation and advanced technology in smart steel monitoring.

A standout initiative is the DREAMERS project, an EU-funded research program led by the University of Salerno. In collaboration with the Universities of Naples Federico II, Liège (Belgium) and Coimbra (Portugal), the team developed FREEDAM – earthquake-resistant steel joints. Tokbo supported lab testing with its smart sensors, part of its advanced monitoring solutions. Thanks to the outstanding results, the plan expanded from 25% sensor coverage to 100%.

Engineers installed FREEDAM joints in a new building at the University of Salerno’s Fisciano campus. There, 48 instrumented bolts now track structural behavior across three floors. Tokbo’s real-time system continuously collects seismic data, which helps improve structural design, enhance building safety, and enable future optimization.

Tokbo’s expertise was also essential for the structural modification of a pavilion belonging to a major Italian exhibition center.. The structure required merging two halls into a unified space supported by four massive steel trestles. During testing, 176 smart bolts monitored stress levels and clamping forces. Tokbo’s real-time data ensured secure assembly and accurate load distribution.

Tokbo’s cloud-based monitoring system simplifies maintenance planning and supports the ambitious goal of achieving zero seismic impact. In addition, the data improves decision-making in construction and helps engineers design safer structures. Therefore, Tokbo’s system is a significant tool in optimizing performance and reducing long-term maintenance costs.

As the construction industry embraces intelligent technologies, Tokbo continues to lead the way. In addition, with advanced steel monitoring tools and ongoing research partnerships, Tokbo is setting the standard for resilient, next-generation infrastructure. Thanks to its innovative solutions, Tokbo is paving the way for safer, smarter, and more sustainable infrastructure worldwide.
